Essential Guide – Silk Bed Linen
Silk Bedding Buying Guide
Seamless or Seamed?
Silk fitted sheets or duvet covers with a seam down the middle or on the sides are generally less expensive, but also less luxurious and less durable.
At Silkmood, our silk is woven on modern looms with a width of 280 cm.
This allows for the creation of bed linen without central or side seams.Advantages of seamless silk bed linen:
– No visible cross seams in the center or on the sides
– More elegant and luxurious finish
– Greater durability
– No risk of tearing at the seams after several washes
Many brands do not specify whether their bed linen is seamless or not. It's important to ask the question before buying. We work directly with selected producers and offer premium quality at a fair price. Our silk duvet covers are machine washable.
Momme: Understanding the Thickness of Silk
Momme is the unit of measurement for the weight and density of silk.
The higher the momme number, the thicker, stronger, and more durable the fabric.
In general:
– Less than 12 momme: used for scarves and lightweight clothing
– 12 to 16 momme: suitable for sleepwear
– 16 to 19 momme: used for bed linen
– 19 momme and above: more resistant, more durable, easier to care for
At Silkmood, we only use 19 momme and 22 momme for our silk bed linen, guaranteeing quality, longevity, and optimal comfort.
What size flat sheet should I choose?
For optimal comfort, the flat sheet should be large enough to completely cover the mattress. A sheet that is too small risks coming loose during the night.
As a general rule, the sheet should extend approximately 80 cm beyond the width of the mattress to ensure a good fit.
Examples:
– 90 × 200 cm mattress → recommended flat sheet: approximately 160 × 280 cm
– 180 × 200 cm mattress → recommended flat sheet: at least 260 × 280 cm
